OPA Spotlight

In celebration of Pride Month, The Ontario Psychological Association is honoured to Spotlight OPA
members who create safe spaces for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Say hello to Dr. Karen Kaffko, Clinical Psychologist
With many years of experience working alongside the Queer community, I’ve had the privilege of
supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating the often complex journey of coming out and
finding acceptance—both internally and within their circles.
My approach centers on helping people understand and reclaim their stories so they can build
stronger, more authentic relationships with themselves and others. I blend practical, solution-focused
and cognitive-behavioral techniques with deeper, relational methods tailored to each person’s needs.
As a certified Family Mediator, I also bring expertise in helping families through conflict, including
separation and divorce, and in creating thoughtful co-parenting plans that prioritize children’s well-
being. My specializations include depression and anxiety disorders, trauma, identity formation, grief
& loss—areas where I’ve seen how vital affirmation and understanding truly are. Whether guiding
someone through a life transition or supporting a couple in reconnecting, I aim to create a safe,
grounded space for healing, growth, and connection.
